這一篇要來釐清 imaginary 和 imaginative 的用法。

先假設我們都知道「想像力」的英文是「imagination」 (名詞)
英文解釋：
Imagination is the power or capacity to form internal images or
ideas of objects and situations not actually present to the senses.

來個例句：
You don't need a vocab list when you have imagination.
(當你有想像力時，你就不需要背字彙了)

而「imaginary」和「imaginative」都是形容詞
imaginary 的意思是「存在於幻想中的」

這個字的英文解釋為：
「Existing only in imagination or fancy; having no real existence; not real or actual.」 
是不是有點給他直白有點狠？

這麼狠的字就要來個例句啦：
I doubt Ray-Ray is an imaginary friend of his, but I don't want to hurt his feelings. 
Let's keep our mouth shut. (我懷疑他口中的瑞瑞是他想像出來的朋友，可是我不想
傷害他的感情，所以我們就閉嘴吧)

 至於 imaginative，也是形容詞，意思是「有想像力的」，後面放人
表示某人有想像力（咦？也可以用來酸人？）

英文解釋：
「Good at thinking of new, original, and creative ideas.」

照慣例來個例句：
He is a real imaginative activist. He doesn't even need to do anything to change the world.
(他是個佛性社運者。他都不需要做任何事，世界就會改變了)  

總結：
只要是「非真實的、想像出來的人事物」，前面就加「imaginary」
如果是只有想像力、原創力、富想像力的人事物，前面就加「imaginative」
